From the judges: Rarely do you hear/see/have an institution place focus on the importance of public service and its impact on their surrounding community. It was impressive how they were able to revive a program and present a learning opportunity for faculty and senior leadership to have a deeper understanding on their university's impact to NC and how THEY are part of the impact.

About this entry: Public service, particularly service to North Carolina, is a core part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s mission. In fall 2019, 90 Carolina faculty members and senior administrators, including the University’s chancellor, boarded three buses and, over three days, traveled a total of 1,600 miles across North Carolina to learn more about the state they serve. University Communications launched a branding and content strategy plan to promote the bus tour, tell the stories about the locations where the buses stopped, capture faculty reactions, showcase the tour and the University to the media and demonstrate how Carolina works to improve the lives of North Carolinians every day. The campaign was a broad promotional effort, aligned with the University’s core mission.
