Title of entry: Emory Together: Jericho Brown reads “Crossing"
About this entry: In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Emory Advancement Communications created this video to build a bridge to connect with the community, with the students who were no longer on campus, with the staff and faculty who were separated and quarantined, and to honor the first responders and frontline medical workers at Emory fighting to save lives of those affected by the virus, risking their lives to keep our community safe.
In contrast to the spate of television spots, we wanted to create a sincere work the was both meditative, cathartic, and hopeful, without making false promises, and without pandering to cheap sentiment.
Anchored by the powerful words read by poet Jericho Brown, we discovered the voice of the piece. Then we sought out campus shots—first empty, and sad, but then coming to life…a place where we can
A video about community and the strength of unity, we wanted to connect Emory stakeholders, and to extend the sense of campus and community outwards. Emory is more than a place: it is a community.
